Henshaw Christian Church History
According to our earliest records, the Henshaw Christian Church was formed in about 1896 as an outgrowth of the Shiloh Christian Church. It was started by "Brother Rogers" on a building site made available by W.L. Henshaw.
The present brick structure began with the building of a full basement slightly to one side of the original building. It was completed in December, 1955, and used for church activities until January of 1959 when the new sanctuary was completed and dedicated. The old frame building was torn down in 1956 and the present site developed into a parking lot. In 1950, the congregation constructed a parsonage and started using the services of the full-time pastor.
The Henshaw Community BBQ was first held July of 1993, and around an acre plot of ground was purchased behind the church building before the following year. In 1996, the church built a sizable expansion. The first Ladies' Day Retreat was hosted by the Ladies Circle in 1999. In 2000, a plot across the road from the church building(at Four Acres) was purchased. The old Shaffer house was torn down and today the land is home to a softball field.
